From Leo Kottke to Chet Atkins, Thom Bresh, Buster B. Jones and Tommy Emmanuel, the musical journey for Steve has taken him through the greatest practitioners of fingerstyle guitar. His schooling as a drummer created an impeccable sense of timing that anchors his solo flights on six strings and is the basis of his teaching.
A regular at guitar festivals such as the Healdsburg Guitar Festival and Newport Guitar Festival, Steve conducts workshops in fingerstyle guitar and presents guitar demos for various custom builders. He tours clubs and coffee houses in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, testing his own technique and hand made instruments in the real world of performance.
His journey into the vast realm of the custom hand made guitars started in 2000 with the acquisition of a pre-owned Blanchard Guitars Sugarpine which tuned his ear to the subtle differences between the different woods, body sizes, styles and builders. He's owned and played a myriad of guitars, including Yamaha, Lowden, Taylor, Larrivee, H&D and currently plays three Blanchard Guitars: Sugarpine, Bristlecone and Sequoia models.
